The first half was all about both teams probing trying to get a break in to the box, both Mark Roberts and Stephen McKeown had scoring opportunities and could not make their final ball count. Sandy Stewart was forced to change his plan of attack when Paul Lovering was caught with a knee to his chest. Stephen McKenna was brought on at right wing back and Frazer Coyle switched to the left where he looked just as comfortable. The first half ended 0-0 with Airdrie having the lion's share of the play and chances.

No changes were made to the Airdrie side for the second half and the game continued much as the first, no one able to make that telling play that would allow them the first goal. Then from a corner Andy Dowie jumped head and shoulders above the Stenhousemuir defence and headed home for the opener the opener.

Cue some changes Neil McGowan was replaced by Steven McDougal, Mark Roberts was replaced by Gary Twigg and David Dunn was replaced by Willie McLaren.
Immediately Willie McLaren's pace caught the Stenhousemuir defence of guard and the keeper had to pull of a great save to keep the Warriors in the game. It was play on the left hand side that would see our second goal, some good passing play left Gary Twigg with three defenders to beat. Using strength and skill he put him self in a scoring position and picked his target. Stenhousemuir's consolation goal came from Paul McGrillen after a corner wasn't cleared properly; keeper Lee Hollis had no chance in saving it. Towards the end of the match Willie McLaren and Gary Twigg both had excellent shots saved by the Stenhousemuir keeper.
