It was a terrible day for a football match, the wind stopped the match being a spectacle for the two thousand fans who had turned out, but it's on days like this that players have to dig in and it comes down to who gets used to the conditions first.

The first half was almost backs to the wall; with the strong wind, blowing in Stephen Robertson face a shot from anywhere could have caused the Airdrie United goalkeeper problems. The first half was disappointing very few chances for either team were forth coming as they battled to get used to the overhead condition.

Picture to follow if available.

The second half was a different matter, Airdrie with the wind at our back took the game to Ross County and it took only seven minutes for Airdrie to take the lead. Some battling play on the right hand side by Stephen McKeown left space for a cross to be lofted in to the penalty box, Gary Twigg was first to the ball and headed home for his sixth goal of the season.

Ross County were not out of the match yet, they had a few half chances and probably even a good call for a penalty, but as we know at Airdrie when it's not going for you, there is very little you can do to fix it other than work hard and hope it's enough.

It could have and should have been two - nil to the Diamonds a corner from Kevin Barkey bounced about in the penalty area until Brian Prunty fired in a tame shot, tame it may have been but it fooled young Joe Malin in the Ross County goals. Gary Twigg was judged to be off side and although he never touch the ball as it broke through the defence he was probably interfering with play.

So a long trip on a cold windy day, sees Airdrie coming home with all three points after a credible performance, what more can you ask?
