Match Report
Airdrie United Under 19s took on Alloa Athletic Under 19s at Recreation Park in their penultimate league cup game and they drew 1-1 thanks to a goal from Mark Fitzpatrick.
For the game our Under 19s made five changes from the team that won 4-2 against Kilsyth Rangers Juniors three days ago as William Morrison, Fraser Craig, Paul Reynolds, Mark Fitzpatrick and Daryl McKernin came into the starting team for Peter Donnelly who was on the bench and for the suspended Shaun Cairney and for Trialist Lee Morrison, Kevin Watt and David Gillies who were not included in the squad.
First Half
The first chance of the game came on the 8th minute for our Young Diamonds when Mark McCarry hit a shot from about 25 yards out but Alloa Goalkeeper Connor O’Boyle made the save. A minute later Alloa had there first chance of the match when they hit a shot about 25 yards from goal but William Morrison made the save despite the shot taking a deflection on route to goal. On the 18th minute our Under 19s won a free kick on the right wing and from it Mark McCarry crossed the ball into the box and Daryl McKernin sent a header goalwards from about six yards out but it was parried by Connor O’Boyle and cleared by his defence. A minute later Alloa had another chance when there player sent a low cross into the box and his team-mate got onto the end of it with a shot about six yards from goal but it was blocked and from the rebound they hit another shot but it took a deflection and went out for a corner and from the corner it was crossed into the box and Willie punched the ball clear.
On the 22nd minute our Under 19s had the next chance when Mark Fitzpatrick sent a header goalwards from a Mark McCarry cross about ten yards from goal but it was saved by Connor O’Boyle. Three minutes later our Under 19s won a free kick about 30 yards from goal and from it Mark McCarry crossed the ball into the box and from about six yards out Mark Fitzpatrick sent a header goalwards and it went into the net to give our Under 19s the lead. A few minutes after this Fraser Craig had a shot from inside the box for our Under 19s but it took a deflection and went wide and from the resulting corner Alloa cleared the danger. Then on the 30th minute Mark McCarry had a chance for our Under 19s when he hit a shot from about 25 yards out but it went wide. Three minutes later Fraser Craig was yellow carded.
There was to be four more chances during the remainder of the half. The first two of these were for Alloa. Firstly on the 34th minute they hit a shot from inside the box and it hit the post and the ball bounced into William Morrison’s arms. Four minutes later Alloa hit a shot from about 20 yards out but it went high and wide. On the 41st minute our Under 19s had the next chance when Chris McMenamin played Paul Reynolds in on goal and from inside the box he hit a shot but it was saved. Just before half time Mark McCarry had the final chance of the half when he hit a shot from the top of the box but it went flying over the bar and our Under 19s went into half time with the one goal lead.
Second Half
The first chance of the half came for Alloa on the 51st minute when they hit a shot from the top of the box but William Morrison made the save. Six minutes later our Under 19s had there first chance of the half when Callum Brady played Mark Fitzpatrick in on goal and from inside the box Mark placed a shot into the net but the referee disallowed the goal as Mark was offside. Two minutes after this our Under 19s won a free kick about 20 yards from goal and from it Mark McCarry hit a shot but it went over the bar. Our Young Diamonds made there first substitution of the game straight after this as Kieran Donaghy came on for Paul Reynolds.
It was Alloa who had the next chance though as on the 60th minute they won a free kick out on the left wing and from it they crossed the ball into the box and there player sent a header goalwards from about six yards out but it went over the bar. Three minutes later our Under 19s made another substitution as Mark Miller came on for the injured Chris McKee. However two minutes after this Alloa won a free kick about 30 yards from goal and from it they hit a shot but William Morrison excellently tipped the ball over the bar and from the resulting corner our Under 19s failed to clear the danger and from about ten yards out Alloa placed a shot into the net to make it 1-1. Four minutes later Graeme Fox was yellow carded.
On the 74th minute our Under 19s had another chance when Kieran Donaghy hit a shot from about 30 yards out but it went over the bar. Four minutes later our Under 19s made their final substitution as David Taylor came on for Mark McCarry. However shortly after this Alloa won a free kick about 30 yards from goal and from it they hit a shot but William Morrison made the save. Then on the 82nd minute our Under 19s had there final chance of the game when Callum Brady played Daryl McKernin through on goal and from inside the box he hit a shot but it went wide. With only two minutes of the game to go Alloa won a free kick on the right wing and from it they crossed the ball into the back post and there player sent a header goalwards but it went wide. Two minutes into injury time Alloa won a free kick about 25 yards from goal and this lead to Fraser Craig been sent off as he was booked for dissent and from the resulting free kick they hit a shot but it went high and wide and the game finished 1-1.
