I’m just getting my feet under the table just now but I thought I’d share a few thoughts on my unexpected elevation to the role of Supporters Trust Chairman. My first reaction is to carry on the role vacated by Veronica and build upon the base that she has left. I also think it’s important to get back to basics and have a look at how we meet the objectives of the “Trust,” movement. After a quick scan of those objectives, I’ve paraphrased the main ones’ below: - • The Trust must operate for the benefit of the community that it serves. • The Trust's members and its officers will not profit from the Trust. • Strengthen the bonds between club and the community, and to represent the interests of the supporters and the community in the running of the club. • Benefit the community through the promotion of football/rugby league/rugby union as a recreational activity. • Help provide, maintain and preserve facilities for the enjoyment of professional football/rugby league/rugby Union • Help promote coaching schemes for all in the community.I think it’s fair to say that there are some we are good at, some we’re ok at and some we need to improve upon. Working from that baseline my aim is that, as a Trust, we continue to do the things we are good at, identify our shortcomings in the others and take steps to improve them. This, I feel, can best be achieved by us all working together, Trust member or not, (obviously I’d like you to be a member) to try and fulfil the principles of these objectives for the greater good of the club, community and supporters. I’ve already had offers of help, for which I’m grateful, and will be in touch soon. I haven’t had the chance to speak to the other committee members yet but hope to organise a meeting in the next week or so where I will develop these thoughts. If you have any ideas or suggestions about the best way of moving the Trust forward please email
