Airdrie United Under 19s 8-2 Elgin City Under 19sLeague Game 19Venue – Stepford Sports ParkKick Off Time – 12:00 NoonDate – Sunday 11 April 2010 Match Report Our Under 19s took on Elgin City Under 19s at Stepford Sports Park in there penultimate league game of the season and returned to winning ways by comfortably winning 8-2. First Half Our Young Diamonds got the game off to a fantastic start and almost took the lead two minutes into it as Scott Sally sent a header goalwards from a cross into the box but the Elgin goalkeeper Paul Robertson got down low to turn the ball around the post and from the corner the ball was crossed into the box and Jamie Bain got away from his marker to fire a shot into the net to give Airdrie the lead. On the 4th minute our Under 19s scored again as from a terrific Fraser Keast cross to the back post an unmarked Ally Morgan turned the ball into the net to make it 2-0. Elgin responded by winning a corner on the 12th minute as from it the ball was crossed into the box and Murray McConachie sent a header goalwards but it lacked power and was easily saved by Gianluca Corvi. Four minutes later things got a whole lot worse for Elgin when they gave a free kick away about 30 yards from goal as from it Ally Morgan brilliantly curled the ball over the wall and into the top corner of the net to give Paul Robertson no chance and make it 3-0. Then on the 21st minute Jonny Fisher came close to increasing the lead but his shot from inside the box went just over the bar. On the 25th minute Danny McLeod had Elgin’s second chance of the game when he hit a shot from about 20 yards out but similar to there last chance it lacked power and was easily saved by Gianluca Corvi. Five minutes later some good skill by Ally Morgan led to him going by his marker and cutting into the box and hitting a shot for Airdrie but the ball went over the bar and shortly after this Ryan Donnelly got onto the end of a Fraser Keast cross into the box with a shot but the ball again went over the bar. Elgin then had there first shot on target on the 32nd minute when Ryan Geddes hit a shot from about 25 yards out but Gianluca Corvi got down low to make the save and two minutes later Elgin had another chance when they hit a shot from 20 yards out but the ball fizzed wide. Airdrie responded by finishing the half strongly and on the 35th minute Scott Sally had a chance when he hit a shot from inside the box but a deflection took the power out the shot and Paul Robertson made the save. A minute later Scott Sally had a brilliant chance to extend the lead after Ryan Donnelly cut the ball back to him inside the box as from about ten yards out Scott hit a shot but Paul Robertson parried the ball away and the Elgin defence cleared the danger. On the 39th minute Ryan Donnelly had a chance when he hit a shot from inside the box but again Paul Robertson made the save and three minutes later Drew Ramsay released Scott Sally in on goal with a through ball and after racing into the box Scott hit a shot but Paul Robertson again made the save. There was still time for our Under 19s to have another two chances before half time but Scott Sally’s shot went wide and Ryan Donnelly’s shot was saved by Paul Robertson to ensure our Young Diamonds only went into half time winning 3-0. Second Half Before the half began our Under 19s made there first substitution as Grant Easton came on for Ally Morgan and only three minutes after the restart Scott Sally won a penalty after been fouled by Elgin goalkeeper Paul Robertson inside the box and from it Scott hit it and the ball rattled the post and went into the net to make it 4-0. Five minutes later Ryan Donnelly had a chance for our Young Diamonds when he hit a shot from inside the box but the ball went over the bar. Then on the 61st minute Airdrie extended there lead when they won a corner as from it Fraser Keast crossed the ball into the box and Ryan Donnelly got onto the end of it with a header and it went into the net to make it 5-0. A minute later it was 6-0 as Fraser Keast cut the ball back to an unmarked Ryan Donnelly about six yards from goal and he tapped the ball into the net for his second goal of the game. Before the next chance our Under 19s made there final two substitutions as David Cane and Andy Collier came on for Michael Hutchinson and Gianluca Corvi however it was Elgin who had the next chance on the 68th minute when they won a corner as from it the ball was crossed into the box and Murray McConachie got away from his marker to head the ball into the net and pull a goal back. Two minutes later Jonny Fisher had a chance for our Under 19s when he hit a shot from about 20 yards out but it went wide and on the 74th minute our Under 19s won a free kick about 25 yards from goal and from it Grant Easton hit a shot but the ball went over the bar. Elgin had only there second chance of the half on the 79th minute when one of there Trialist substitutes hit a shot from about 20 yards out but it took a deflection and went just wide and from the corner the ball was cleared. Three minutes later Airdrie had another chance when they won a corner and from it Grant Easton sent a cross into the box and David Cane got away from his marker to send a powerful header into the net to increase the lead. Then with only five minutes of the half remaining Elgin pulled a goal back as from a low cross into the box Fraser Forbes got onto the end of it with a shot and it went into the net for a consolation goal. There was still time for three more chances in the game and on the 89th minute Elgin had there final chance of the game when they hit a shot from inside the box but Andy Collier made the save. During stoppage time Airdrie had there penultimate chance when Jamie Bain got onto the end of a Grant Easton cross into the box with a header but the ball rattled the bar and bounced down and from the rebound Ryan Donnelly had a shot blocked and the ball went out for a corner and from the corner Fraser Keast sent a cross to the back post and David Cane got high above his marker to send a header high into the net for his second goal of the game and to win the game 8-2 and send our Under 19s into there first league cup game against Queens Park on Tuesday night on a high.
