Match Report

Our Under 19s returned to winning ways in the league after producing a good performance to win 4-1 against Queen of the South at Glasgow Green.

For the game our Under 19s were forced to make one change to the starting eleven from the previous league game against Stirling Albion as Shaun McKay joined Fraser Keast and Grant Easton on the injury list and this meant Graeme Goodall was handed a start.
Meanwhile Queen of the South included former Airdrie United Under 17s player Martin Reilly in there starting eleven.

First Half

Queen of the South almost got the game off to a fantastic start as during the first minute of it David Green had space in the box and he hit a shot but it went over the bar. Airdrie had to wait seven minutes before there first chance and it was for Jamie Bain when he hit a shot from about 25 yards out but Queen of the South goalkeeper Ross Lundy made the save. Then on the 10th minute Ross Lundy was called into action again as from a cross to the back post Ryan Donnelly hit a shot but Ross turned it around the post and from the resulting corner Graeme Goodall sent a dangerous cross into the box which Ross had to turn over the bar and Queen of the South eventually cleared the danger from the next corner.

Airdrie continued to create chances and on the 14th minute Jonny Fisher had his first of the game when he hit a shot from about 20 yards out but it went over the bar. It was Queen of the South who had the best chance of the game so far though on the 16th minute as from a cross to the back post an unmarked Ian Orsi controlled the ball and with only Andy Collier to beat hit a shot but the ball went flying over the bar. Four minutes later Ryan Donnelly had a go from about 20 yards out for our Under 19s but Ross Lundy again made a save and shortly after this Paddy McCabe was yellow carded.

On the 24th minute our Young Diamonds had another chance when Aiden Malone was played through on goal and from a tight angle he excellently chipped the ball over Ross Lundy and into the net to make it 1-0. Three minutes after the goal Jamie Bain had a go from about 20 yards out but it went wide and from the restart Queen of the South launched a counter attack and this led to Steven Degnan placing a shot from inside the box under Andy Collier and into the net for the equalizer.

Airdrie responded by dominating the remainder of the half and on the 34th minute they had there next chance when they won a corner as from it Paul Byrne crossed the ball into the box and Aiden Malone sent a header goalwards but it went over the bar and five minutes later Ryan Donnelly skipped by a Queen of the South defender and hit a shot from inside the box but Ross Lundy made the save. Before the next chance David Cane was yellow carded for Airdrie and on the 42nd minute they had it when they won another corner as from it the ball was not cleared and it landed at the feet of Michael Hutchinson at the top of the box and he hit a shot but Ross Lundy made the save and just before half time Michael became the third Airdrie player to be yellow carded and the teams headed into half time level.

Airdrie was to punish Queen of the South for not taking any of there chances on the 55th minute as from the top of the box Jonny Fisher hit a shot but Ross Lundy fumbled the ball and Scott Sally reacted quickest to hit a shot but Ross blocked the ball and it fell to Ryan Donnelly and he fired a shot into the net to give our Under 19s the lead. Eight minutes later our Under 19s won a free kick at the edge of the box and from it Jonny Fisher brilliantly curled the ball around the ball and into the back of the net to give Ross Lundy no chance and make it 3-1 and before the game could restart our Young Diamonds made there first substitution as Ally Morgan came on for Aiden Malone.

On the 67th minute Airdrie had another chance when Ryan Donnelly hit a shot from inside the box but Ross Lundy made the save and two minutes later Queen of the South had a chance as from a cross into the box a header was sent goalwards but Andy Collier made the save.
