 Airdrie got their league campaign underway with a spirited fightback to secure a share of the points at Bayview Stadium.
With Fraser Keast then only change to last Saturdays line up replacing Tony Watt who was carrying a knock the Diamonds started well and a Rhys Devlin drive was saved well by Stewart Baillie.
In 30 minutes however a move down the right wing saw East Fife take the lead when Steve Hislop converted the cross into the box. Airdrie had the chance to get on level terms before the break when they were awarded a penalty after Scott Gemmil was felled in the box. He dusted himself down to take the kick only to see Baillie saving well. The equaliser did come however 5 minutes into the 2nd half when Jamie Bain fired a great cross into the box for Gemmil to finish. 2 minutes later though East Fife took the lead again when Lloyd Young capitalised on poor defending. In 60 minutes East Fife extended there lead when Airdrie were caught in possession to allow Robert Linn to fire past Mark Ridgers. Jimmy Boyle then made changes bringing on Ryan Wallace & Tony Watt. 4 minutes later Wallace delivered a cross into the box which Scott Gibson rose to meet, powering home his header. Airdrie were now pressing for the equaliser and in 70minutes a short corner saw Wallace fire over a cross to the far post. Scott Gemmil headed the ball goalwards before Tony Watt got a touch to make sure the ball crossed the line. In the final minutes Watt went one on one with David Muir. The young striker got the better of the tussle but was hauled down as he was closing in on goal. Muir saw red for his challenge but Airdrie couldn't grab the winner in the remaining minutes. A good away point and a great comeback by the young Diamonds.
