Airdrie United exited the Active Nation Scottish Cup tonight following a 3-1 home defeat. Raith Rovers travelled to Excelsior Stadium for the replay and secured a fifth round home tie against Aberdeen with two first half strikes and a late penalty.
Kevin Smith opened the scoring for Raith after 24 minutes when he converted an Iain Williamson cross. Bobby Donelly got Airdrie level in 39 minutes when he got on the end of a superbly flighted ball by Scott McLaughlin. With the first half drawing to an end Gregory Tade found space at the back post to head past Robertson to put Rovers in front.
The 2nd half saw chances for both sides and with time running out Stephen Robertson was adjudged to have pulled down Graham Weir in the box. The referee issued a second yellow and Airdrie were reduced to 10 men before Jonny Russell converted from the spot. Ref: Nicholls Att: 852
