Airdrie United ran out 4 - 0 winners today against Queen of the South to go into Monday's 4th Round Active Nation Scottish Cup draw. The victory and the man of the match award are dedicated to the memory of the late, great John Ballantyne.
The day started with an impeccable's minutes silence and what followed was the sides best performance of the season to defeat the cup finalists from 2008. With only 12 minutes of the game gone confusion in the Queens defence led to David Hutton clearing the ball into the path of Alan Trouten whose instinctive reaction saw him fire into the empty net to start the days scoring. Stewart Kean then had a chance to equalize but found Stephen Robertson in fine form. Airdrie then doubled there lead when Diarmuid O'Carroll slid a perfect pass into John Baird who fired home. Airdrie were playing some terrific football and Paul Lovering sent Scott McLaughlin on a run down the left wing which ended with a perfect cross being delivered into the box to be met by Trouten for his 2nd and Airdrie's 3rd. With the fog drifting in it was Airdrie who came out for the 2nd half determined to put the game out of reach of Queen of the South. With 65 minutes gone good work by Trouten and Baird set up O'Carroll who finished with style. Airdrie and Alan Trouten then failed to make it 5 when a pass by Lagana released him on the right hand side. With only the keeper left to beat a cheeky chip was saved with ease by Hutton.
